Monmouth Court Routes by Charge
New Jersey does not label its serious crimes as felonies. First- through fourth-degree crimes are indictable offenses and run through Superior Court Criminal Part. PACER's federal layer should be checked only when the matter is in federal court; it cannot fill gaps in a Monmouth Superior Court search.

The Criminal Part is an active docket, so a filing count should not be mistaken for a crime total. Judiciary statistics for July 2025 through March 2026 reported 1,567 Monmouth Criminal Division filings, 1,494 resolutions, a 95 percent clearance rate, 570 pending matters, and 161 active backlog cases. Those figures describe workload and case movement. They do not show how many arrests occurred or how many people were convicted.
How a Criminal Case Moves
Police file a complaint through eCDR, and a judge handles the first appearance and risk-based pretrial review. The Monmouth County Prosecutor screens an indictable matter. Grand-jury action may produce an indictment, while waiver can lead to an accusation. Arraignment, discovery, motions, and conferences then frame the disputed issues before dismissal, diversion, plea, or trial.

Identifiers reveal which system created the entry. A CDR number belongs to the complaint process. An indictment or accusation number ties the charge to the Superior Court prosecution. PROMIS/Gavel case and defendant numbers organize court tracking. An SBI number is the State Bureau of Identification key linked to a fingerprint-supported history.
Keep those values together when asking for copies or correcting a result. A name-only match is weak because aliases, spelling, and common names can produce false matches. If the public conviction screen lacks a pending or dismissed case, the complaint and court identifiers give Criminal Records staff a better route to the jacket.

Diversion in Monmouth Criminal Cases
Pretrial Intervention can suspend charges for an eligible participant while court-approved conditions are completed. Monmouth Recovery Court uses intensive treatment, probation, testing, and frequent court appearances. At its 40th graduation in January 2024, New Jersey Courts reported 207 participants and 669 graduates after more than two decades of operation.
The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Restart program applies legal and clinical screens to eligible low-level, nonviolent third- and fourth-degree cases linked to serious mental illness. After at least one year of supervised treatment, successful completion prompts a dismissal motion. A portal result may therefore show more than a simple guilty-or-not-guilty path. The docket and disposition are needed to understand how diversion affected the filed charges.
PTI, Recovery Court, and Restart are not interchangeable labels. Each has its own eligibility path, supervision terms, and case result. Read the event history and final order before describing what happened in a Monmouth County prosecution.
Case Record Access & Restrictions
New Jersey court files follow Supreme Court Rule 1:38 rather than OPRA. Public access does not extend to sealed or expunged matters, juvenile records, grand-jury material, confidential victim or minor data, protected personal identifiers, and other material restricted by rule or court order. Online views can also be narrower than records available through a lawful clerk request.
When a qualifying Monmouth County record has been expunged, ordinary public access is cut off even though limited statutory access may remain.
